"it’s true we all need to learn how to better draw conclusions from the experiences and feelings we talk about and how to draw all kinds of connections."

I can't help but

wonder what Carol and her crew of women would think about me and mine? The irony of my journey throughout this project is not lost on me. I began this experience thinking that my need for a Girls’ Club was singular, but learned that the desire for intentional female connection is actually a shared experience across not only my friends but entire generations of women. The whole idea of consciousness-raising groups is for women to gather and share their thoughts and feelings and to walk away feeling empowered and educated. That is exactly what happened for me in Girls’ Club. I wish now that I could sit down with Carol to be able to collectively share and reflect together on our experiences together. For us to gather and pull a deep meaning out of what the intersection of the history and this project means.

I do not know her personally so I am left to reflect and pull meaning from this project on my own. Girls’ Club did not set out to hold a modern consciousness-raising group experiment, but when I reflect now, I think we did a damn good job at doing exactly that. My experience, the experiences of my friends, and the experiences of women across the world in other modern consciousness-raising groups show that women getting together is necessary. Women need each other to succeed and to thrive. Many advancements have been made but we still live in a society that pins us against one another, so it is vitally important that we sit down and truly listen to each other.
